On 7 November 2025, the Hospital Universitari de Mataró hosted the Jornada de Pediatria del Barcelonès Nord i Maresme, a scientific meeting aimed at paediatricians working in hospitals and primary care, as well as residents and paediatric nurses.
As part of the programme, Dr. Paula Ventura, researcher the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), delivered a keynote lecture entitled “Endocrine Disruptors in Paediatrics.”
Her talk addressed the growing concern about endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and their potential impact on child health, including effects on metabolic, thyroid, and reproductive development. Dr. Sol Ventura presented the ongoing research carried out within the HYPIEND project, coordinated by Eurecat, which investigates strategies to reduce children’s exposure to EDCs through community and school-based interventions.
The study involves 350 children aged 6 to 8 years from 17 schools across Catalonia, and aims to evaluate the effectiveness of educational interventions in reducing exposure to EDCs such as bisphenols, pesticides and heavy metals. Families and schools participating in the study receive practical guidance and access to a digital platform, which provides personalised recommendations on healthy habits and environmental prevention.
The session provided an opportunity to share the project’s objectives and early insights with healthcare professionals, fostering awareness and collaboration between the research and clinical communities.
The event was organised by the Consorci Sanitari del Maresme (CSdM) and featured lectures and discussions on key topics in paediatrics, bringing together experts from across Catalonia.
