ABOUT HYPIEND DIGITAL TOOL

Supporting families in reducing exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals

The HYPIEND Digital Tool (HDT) is a mobile application developed within the HYPIEND project as part of a multicomponent intervention designed to help parents reduce their family’s exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) during the perinatal period and early childhood.

The HDT complements educational workshops and telephone follow-ups, acting as a practical, easy-to-use companion for initiating and maintaining behavioural changes in daily routines. It guides users in adopting protective habits regarding plastics, personal care products, textiles, cleaning products, and other consumer goods that may contain EDCs.

By integrating evidence-based behaviour change strategies, personalised guidance, and interactive features, the HDT supports long-term adherence, enhances awareness of EDC risks, and contributes to the research objectives of the HYPIEND project.

OBJECTIVES

Facilitate and sustain behaviour change that leads to reduced exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals

Personalised recommendations

Offers interactive content that motivates, educates, and guides families through safer daily practices. Tailored to each participant’s needs and lifestyle.

Behavioural change support

Helps users identify and select target behaviours to work on. The behavioural design of the app is based on the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) model, which structures how users are motivated, guided, and supported through change.

Progress monitoring

Increase general awareness among citizens about EDCs. Supports progress monitoring, boosting motivation and engagement throughout the intervention.

HOW IT WORKS

Mobile App for participant interaction

Motivational messages raise awareness of health and environmental consequences, missions provide concrete steps to implement target behaviours, and booster messages reinforce self-efficacy and motivation depending on user progress.
