New analytical strategies to assess exposure and health risks from EDCs presented at MSE 2026

Research linked to the HYPIEND project was presented at the international MSE 2026 Congress, highlighting new approaches to better understand endocrine-disrupting chemicals and their potential effects on human health.

Salvador Fernández Arroyo, researcher at Eurecat’s Omic Sciences Unit, presented “Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals: Exposure, Biological Effects, and Analytical Strategies for Risk Assessment”, a contribution developed together with fellow researchers Iris Samarra, Antoni del Pino, Marc Riu and Dorota Komar, under the supervision of Nuria Canela.

During the session, the Eurecat team explained how advanced analytical tools can help detect Endocrine Disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in biological samples and investigate their effects on the human body. Combining these techniques with clinical and in vitro studies, together with multi-omics approaches can provide a more complete understanding of how endocrine disruptors affect health and contribute to improving their risk assessment.

The participation at MSE 2026 also provided an opportunity to showcase research connected to HYPIEND, which investigates the effects of exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals during particularly sensitive stages of life, including the perinatal and pre-pubertal periods.
