HYPIEND was represented at the 72nd Congress of the Spanish Association of Paediatrics (AEP), held in Donostia-San Sebastián from 11 to 13 June 2026. Daniela Ardila, researcher at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), presented two oral communications during the Paediatric Endocrinology session. The official scientific programme included both HYPIEND contributions in this session.
The first communication, “School-based educational interventions to reduce exposure to endocrine disruptors in childhood: baseline study of the HYPIEND project”, presented the baseline phase of HYPIEND’s prepubertal intervention study. The research explores the school environment as a setting for educational actions aimed at helping children and their families reduce everyday exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs).
Establishing this baseline is an essential step for assessing the impact of the intervention and evaluating changes in exposure and other health-related indicators as the study progresses.
The second communication, “Anthropometric indicators in schoolchildren aged 6–8 and comparison with pre-COVID data”, examined anthropometric indicators among children participating in the study and compared them with data collected before the COVID-19 pandemic. The research provides additional context for understanding current growth and weight-related patterns in this age group.
Together, the two presentations highlight HYPIEND’s multidisciplinary approach, bringing together paediatric endocrinology, environmental health, epidemiology and prevention to better understand children’s health during a particularly sensitive stage of development.
