Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC) are exogenous substances that alter function(s) of the endocrine system and consequently cause adverse effects in human beings, or its progeny. They are found in everyday products such as food packaging, personal care products and other items that are used in daily life, making them ubiquitous in nature. The harmful effects of EDC occur via hormone signalling pathways, interfering with hormone synthesis, metabolism and function. Although there is increasing research on the topic, more information is needed on the mode of action of EDC mixtures.
This HYPIEND poster was presented at the IV PhD Day IIS La Fe, that took place in Valencia, Spain.
